“I’m not good enough,” he said to her that day. He genuinely believed it, deep down to his core. He could never, ever be with a beautiful angel of a lady and be enough to hold her interest for very long at all. He’d been made to believe that by countless rejections, both big and small. From an averted gaze to an outright slap in the face.
And he was right… because he believed it. Not because it was true from her own perspective or any more objective perspective. It only had to be true for him. It became a self-fulfilling prophecy every time he tried to give his heart away. He didn’t feel like enough, so he was never enough.
